Captain Shafter Johnston
Captain Shafter Johnston started hunting and fishing as a child and by the age of 5 had killed his first buck in South Texas and caught his first marlin off the Outer Banks of North Carolina.
Captain Shafter started his guiding career in the marshes of South Carolina putting clients on redfish, trout and flounder. After a few years he followed his dream to guide in the Florida Keys. He moved to Islamorada and started a mothership operation called Bluemoon Expeditions. He took anglers on multi-day expeditions into the most remote parts of the Everglades, Marquesas, and Louisiana to experience incredible fishing. Bluemoon was a huge success thanks to publicity on several televisions shows such as Saltwater Experience and Silver Kings. It was also featured in many magazine articles by Charleston based photographer, Jason Stemple. Bluemoon was eventually purchased by another company and Shafter made his way back to his home waters of South Carolina.
Shafter still enjoys Tarpon fishing in the Keys and Glades in the spring and chasing bull reds in Louisiana in the fall but his favorite place to fish and guide clients is the creeks and bays of the Carolina coast. Shafter has extensive guiding knowledge of the marshes of South Carolina and his passion and experience will help clients achieve their fishing goals.
